      • Betty Stevens
Betty Jean Stevens passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 18th at her home in University Heights. She was for many years an employee of the University of Iowa in the Office of the President, serving both Presidents Howard Bowen and Willard Boyd.
She later completed a JD at the University of Iowa College of Law. She earned a reputation on campus as a rapid solver of New York Times crossword puzzles, earning the respect of the aforementioned University Presidents who learned to just wait until she completed that morning's puzzle before bothering her with any interruptions. An avid duplicate bridge player she bid and made several slams and grand slams, one as recently as last week.
She leaves behind a grieving son, George Craig Stevens of Charleston, SC and a very good friend and bridge partner Bayard Bosserman of Iowa City.

An informal visitation will be held at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service on Wednesday the 23rd from 10 am until noon. A memorial celebration for Betty will be part of the regularly scheduled performance of the Burlington Street Bluegrass Band at The Mill (120 East Burlington Street) on Wednesday evening the 23rd starting at 7 pm.

      • Community Visioning Workshop Invitation
        April 9, 2016
        St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church
University Heights is partnering with Trees Forever and Iowa State University by holding a Community Visioning Workshop on Saturday, April 9th. This workshop is the community’s chance to further discuss University Heights' transportation assets and opportunities with the planning team from Iowa State.
Workshops will be two hours long for each sub-group. The first hour will be a mapping exercise with landscape architects from Iowa State, and during the second hour participants will be given a digital camera with GPS to go out and photograph areas in town that are assets or opportunities for improvement. Workshop start times vary depending on which user group you fall into.
We are hoping to get participation from a wide variety of people - seniors, people with mobility challenges, parents of young children, older children with more independence, active adults, commuters, and people who don't live in UH but pass through on their way to work or play. If you'd like to attend a workshop you'll need to be there for the entire two hour session.
Group 1: Senior Citizens & Mobility Impaired 9a-11a
        Group 2: Parents & Children 10a-12n
        Group 3: Active Adults 11a-1p
        Group 4: Steering Committee 1p-3p
All participants are welcome to attend the Results Presentation from 3:30p-4:00p
The community visioning steering committee will be canvassing all of UH this coming weekend and over the next few weeks to find participants. UH residents AND non-residents can sign up to attend the workshop by emailing a steering committee rep by March 13, 2016 to Dotti Maher dotti@university-heights.org or Janis Deyak jdeyak@marykay.com. Please indicate which sub-group you wish to attend.
