Updated Streets and Sidewalks  page

June 18, 2013

All,

This is the 7th weekly update on the Sunset Street Wide Sidewalk project.  Through last week, the contractor has used 19 of their allotted 45 "working days".  Work last week focused on the segment south of Oakcrest Avenue preparing the grade for the new sidewalk alignment, rebuilding the street curb on the south corner of Oakcrest, and beginning demolition work of fence and retaining wall at the Sunset/Benton intersection.

The contractor indicates planned work for this week includes:

  1. Storm sewer work and fire hydrant relocation between Highland and Oakcrest.
  2. Continue demolition and grading at the Sunset/Benton corner to prepare for new retaining wall installation.
  3. Paving sidewalk south of Highland Drive, and perhaps some sidewalk just south of Oakcrest Avenue.
  4. Continued work by Mid-American to set new poles and move their lines to the new poles, and hopefully appearances by Mediacom, Qwest, and Windstream to move their overhead lines from the old poles to the new poles so that Mid-American can remove the old poles.

Please let me know if you have any questions, thanks.

    All:

This is the 6th weekly update on the construction progress of the Sunset Street Wide Sidewalk project.  The construction contract allows for 45 "working days" to complete the project, and through last Friday (June 7th), the contractor has been charged 16 working days, or approximately 1/3 of their allotted time.  There have
been a number of rain days (and sometimes the next day after) over the last 3 weeks that do not get charged against the contractor as the direct weather, or the wet ground it leaves behind prevents the contractor from working on their main work item at that time.

Work completed by the contractor last week included preparing and paving new curb and gutter at Koser and Highland, and preparing and setting forms for the new curb ramps at each intersection.  Additional grading of the ground for the new sidewalk alignment continued between Highland and Oakcrest.  Demolition work also began south of Oakcrest with sidewalk removal, clearing of topsoil, and beginning the work to remove shrubs, fence, and concrete retaining wall at the corner of the Benton/Sunset intersection.  Mid-American Energy was on-site throughout the week setting new utility poles, moving overhead wires, and working on the existing gas main in the west Sunset Street right-of-way.

The contractor indicates planned work for this week includes:

    1. Storm sewer work and fire hydrant relocation between Highland and Oakcrest.
    2. Continue removal of retaining wall at Sunset/Benton intersection.
    3. Sidewalk paving on sections south of Highland Drive, including curb ramps at Highland.
    4. Grading of the ground south of Oakcrest for the new sidewalk alignment.
    5. Continued work by Mid-American to set new poles, and hopefully appearances by Mediacom, Qwest, and Windstream to move their overhead lines from the old poles to the new poles so that Mid-American can remove the old poles.

Please let me know if you have any questions, thanks.
